Bill,

Shoot! I thought the locations served table would be the answer. My next thought was individuals have a "location
served" as part of their authorizations but since you don't have any new staff that blows a big hole in that thought.

I assume you have checked in the in transit items, checked them back out and in again with no problem. Intermittent problems can be a real pain to track down. Somehow the milcirc login is forgetting that the childav, adtav, etc. are OK to check-in. Could the previous transaction have set the system up for failure?

The key may be catching the system when it fails and then getting the Help Desk to get to the transaction log quick enough to see what happened.

We do not have separate checkout locations.

The locations served table was checked and all locations are listed
properly.

And we are not an Oracle site.

Bill,

Do you have separate checkout points for children vs. adult materials?
Does "in transit" only happen with the milcirc login?

My thoughts: In the setup for the milcirc login there probably is a
"locations served" listed. I am guessing the corresponding "locations
served" table is missing the three location codes you have in your
examples. Therefore when the milcirc login checks in an item with a
"childav" location code it is setting the item to "in transit" because
the system doesn't think it belongs with the locations "served" by
milcirc.

I'm having a bit of a mystery. I've searched the archives and haven't
noticed anything regarding this issue.

Myself, the head of circulation, and our head of tech services cannot
figure this out...

Over the past few weeks, we have been getting random items appearing to
be in transit for no obvious reason. Has anyone else experienced this?

We are a single branch library, and all locations served are within that
one branch. All examples below were from different items returned by
different patrons. Issue is happening with AV and print materials.

No new staff on hand - if it was a staff created problem I feel it would
be on more chunks of items than random ones checked in at different
times.

Mil 2006.1.3

Nothing different with our setup except a new Encore server - but this
started happening before Encore server was here I believe.

Example one:

Item location childav

lcheckin 4-5-08.

Item updated 4-9-08.

Status in transit

Message: wed apr 9 2008 1149am in transit from milcirc to chdav

Example two:

Item location: adtav

Lcheckin 4-3-08.

Item updated 4-9-08.

Status in transit

Message: wed apr 9 2008 1119am in transit from milcirc to adtav

Example three:

Item location: child

Lcheckin: 3-31-08

Item update 4-9-08.

Status in transit

Message: wed apr 9 2008 1119am in transit from milcirc to adtav
