Dana,
We're using MS 2003 R2 servers here for DNS. When I enter a host entry with the *.<servername>.<domainname>, it automatically created a sub-zone for the <servername> within the <domainname> zone and a host record (A record) for the wildcard (*) with the sub-zone.
If the full entry you want is *.www.ecok.edu and your DNS is has the zone ecok.edu, it would display something like this:
Ecok.edu
|_ www
|_ * (Host A) x.x.x.x (IP of host record)

We are experiencing the same thing - one second it works, the next it
doesn't. We think we've pin pointed it to one of our servers on campus
that doesn't have the correct DNS entry. However, it's a Microsoft
server that won't accept wildcard DNS entries. We're trying to find a
work around.

Subject: [IUG] WAM - inconsistency
We're making progress. My thanks to everyone who's helped on this.
I appear to have a continuity issue. I've developed my list of links:
http://www.bridgewater.edu/test/RemoteAccess.htm
When testing them from home, I get different results each time I try.
Friday night, they all worked except Columbia International Affairs
Online (CIAO), then I tried again Sunday evening, Netlibrary and
Newsbank were not working. This morning, most of them weren't working at
all.
I receive two kinds of errors.
The first is not being able to locate the server.
The second error brings up a search page saying
-- Sorry. "0-www.oxfordreference.com.alex.bridgewater.edu" does not
exist or is not available!
Any thoughts on the issue for this inconsistency?
