Hello and Merry Christmas !!! My cataloger has a question and since
things are slowing down for the holidays I thought I would post and see
how others handle this situation. We have for example a periodical that
we receive monthly and what is happening is basically more than one
issue is bound into a book. We either bound it this way or it might
have been sent this way. So for example, the last 4 issues of Sports
Illustrated, are bound into one book and set up as issue 9- 12. The
problem is, that the name of the periodical changes on say the 11 issue
so, we have 2 bib records for the same item because the title has
changed. The item does include 4 issues but shows as 1 item and has 1
barcode. When we try to link the item record to 2 bibs it locks the
record and we have to call III to have it released. I was wondering how
others handle this situation?? Thanks!!!
We have X-linked many items to separate bibs, including serials, and it has
always worked seamlessly. Seems as if there's something wrong in your setup.
