Hi Aaron - The search strategy I use is based on the assumtion 1] by
'records' you mean bib records and 2] 'all attached items withdrawn' means
the bib no longer has any items attached, or is what I call and 'empty bib
record". The other caveat is if your catalogers add bibs and you display on
order items you don't want to remove those bibs, thus you want to limit by
date.
In the text-based system: Choose an empty file to work with, select 2
-->create a new file--> B bibliographic list. The search is ^ [caret, the
symbol over the 6 key] linked record N [does not exist] for i [item records]
A [AND] ^ [linked record] N [does not exist] for o [order records]A [AND] ^
[linked record] N [does not exist for} c [checkin records].
This assures you that if there are any linked records the bib will be
excluded from your list. This is obvious for items since that is your goal,
but not so obvious for order and checkin records.
If you want to limit by date for the reason mentioned above , I use field 10
in my bib records which is 'created date' being the date the record was
created: A [AND] 10 L [less than or equal to] 11-01-2004 or whatever date
you feel fits your situation. This also could apply to a newer item that was
lost and you intend to replace, saving you the cost of another OCLC record
etc. etc. I would test all this by using the limit feature or 's'stopping
the search and examining the results before you let it go through your
entire database. It is a fairly slow search due to all the files the system
checks. HTH. Eric Rhee, Chula Vista Public Library

Subject: All Items Withdrawn
Sorry for this reposting, I know I saw the thread on here somewhere but
I just can seem to find it. I was wondering about a create list
Strategy to get a list of Records where all of the attached items are
withdrawn. We are running MilSilver.
Thanks,
