Our library made the decision (years ago) to index author's names in
970 subfield f in our table of contents fields. For awhile we struggled
to keep up with the authority work on these names, but recently admitted
to ourselves that we may have to "let them go" (ouch -- that gives me a
pain!). I'd be very interested to know how others are dealing with this
problem (or not dealing with it). Please reply to me, and if there is any
interest I'll summarize for the list.
Yes, Judith, here at the Tri-Colleges we, too, decided to just let them go
(holding our noses). I've learned to notice the capitalization in the
opac, since in the 970 fields most words are usually capitalized, so I
don't need to worry about fixing stray headings. Fortunately, it shows in
the Headings Reports that the invalid heading is from a 970 field, so I can
ignore them. In fact, I've asked the person who loads the TOC to let me
know so I can clear out the reports before and after, since there are so many.
Hope this belatedly helps,
