Bill-

Dartmouth has purchased this product.  We're not happy with it in its
present form.  Our problem is that we have nearly 10,000 records with URLs
being verified through this program.  Many of these URLs are PURLs or are
generic URLs that end up resolving to something else once you hit the
vendor's site.

The report that is generated weekly is so large that it won't load on most
of the machines we have here.  My Mac with 192MB of memory can handle it,
but it takes a LONG time to load, and I pretty much have to quit the
browser when I'm done looking at the report.  The vast majority of errors
are of the 302 Moved Temporarily ilk.  

These concerns were raised in the session "Maintaining Hyperlinks in the
WebPac: Tools and Tradeoffs" at IUG 8.  The presenters were Tom Tyler of
University of Denver Library and Mary Strouse of Howard University Law
Library.  Their presentation also listed a number of enhancements which
have already been suggested to Innovative

We were looking to this product as a replacement for our current procedure
which involves outputting records with URLs, converting the records to a
"web page" and using the checkbot program to verify the web page of URLs.
A few too many steps for us, and also a procedure that's being run out of
the Systems department instead of the Maintenance department.

In the meantime we're investigating the other part of this product, the
part that lets you collect records in a review file and run the link
checker over just those records.  With this method we can exclude all the
URLs that we know will generate the 302 error and focus on the rest.
