Title: RE: Cdate in order record

We had the opposite situation; we were working fine with CDATE from order record for some time, after one of the updates that went wacky, and now it is back to normal ( I think).

You can edit bibliographic records in the order module; you just can't do item records.

Originally we used the presence of an item record to suppress the order record, altho that method was not good for replacement orders.  We had to switch to using the cdate in the order record when we started using Promptcat, because we get electronic invoices and item records from Yankee Book Peddler with our OCLC Promptcat records.  This meant if we had stuck with the item record method, books would show as cataloged when the shipment wasn't processed yet.

We have two different primary workflows according to whether a book is a GobiLink/Promptcat order or not.  Since probably at least 80% of our cataloging is currently Promptcat, that is the most common workflow.

We merged Acquisitions and Cataloging into a single unit.  The copy catalogers are doing partial receiving. They work first in the order module, entering the RDATE and CDATE in the order record [student assistants have already done pre-verification on the shipment, matching physical items with the invoices, etc.] and doing any necessary edits on the OCLC record while still in the order module.  The process is speeded up by the use of macro buttons in our telnet program.  We can set a button for the day we want, one click of the mouse and it enters both RDATE and CDATE in the order record the cataloger is working on.  Then when they have finished a group of records, they go into Database Management in order to edit item records as needed.  I should mention we suppress the newly created item records when we download our Promptcat files so that they don't show in the OPAC until we are ready.   One thing the cataloger does is unsuppress the item record.
