POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

TITLE:  Information Technology Librarian

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Texas Tech University seeks an Information Technology
Librarian to play a pivotal role in the thoughtful development and
application of emerging technologies in meeting the needs of library staff
and the university community.   Participates in the planning, procurement,
and continued support and development for technological services and systems
to facilitate access to the library's collections and other electronic
services.  Assists in the system administration for the DRA integrated
system, Innovative Interfaces Acquisitions and Serials system, and other
library systems. Designs and coordinates the compilation and dissemination
of regular statistical & managerial reports from the automated systems.
Provides training and support to library staff in the use and support of new
technology.  The Libraries will be migrating to an integrated library system
and this position will play a significant role in the planning, migration
and implementation of the new system. Reports to the Head of Information
Technology Services.  The Information Technology Services Department has 6
full time staff and four student assistants.  The department is responsible
for supporting a Windows NT LAN, DRA, Innovative Interfaces, over 300 staff
and public workstations, and a variety of other technology services.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA-accredited Master's degree or international
equivalent, and at least one year of relevant experience, preferably in an
academic library environment. The applicant must have strong oral and
written communication skills, training abilities, excellent listening and
other interpersonal skills, and a strong service orientation.  Must be able
to work well with all levels of staff regardless of their technological
expertise.  The applicant must have a demonstrated ability to work
cooperatively in a team-based environment.  Preferred:  Experience with
Windows 95/98/2000/NT, client/server applications and information standards
(e.g., Z39.50, MARC, HTML, XML), Innovative Interfaces or DRA.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:  Depending on qualifications and experience, minimum of
$34,000.  Comprehensive benefits include choice of retirement programs,
including TIAA-CREF; 13 state holidays; developmental leave opportunities;
moving allowance; and no state or local income tax.

GENERAL INFORMATION:  Texas Tech University (http://www.texastech.edu) is a
state-supported institution with an enrollment of  25,000.  It offers a wide
range of academic programs in thirteen colleges and schools, including law
and medicine.  There are approximately 100 master's degree programs and over
50 at the doctoral level.  Texas Tech is a member of the Association of
Research Libraries, Center for Research Libraries, and the Big 12 Plus
Library Consortium.  The newly renovated University Library
(http://www.lib.ttu.edu) has over 2.1 million volumes and an annual budget
of over $9 million.  Lubbock has a metropolitan population of 224,000 and is
the regional center for education, agriculture, health care, banking, and
business.
